Overcoming Panic Attacks

There is unfortunately no easy, surefire way to start overcoming panic
attacks. Most people who are eventually successful have to try several different methods of panic attack
management before they find what works for them.
This means two things: it means that you might have to try more than one method
to overcome your panic attacks - but it also means that even if you have not been successful in the past, you may
have not found the right solution for you.
You also do not need to blindly try these methods for overcoming panic attacks -
you should take a good look at all of these suggestions, and decide which ones are most likely to work for
you.
Here are some tips for overcoming panic
attacks:
1.
Diet
Certain foods and drugs are well
known to increase the likelihood of panic attacks. Although
this is not a sure thing, you can reduce your chances of panic attacks by eliminating these foods from your
diet.
Caffeine - although it appears in many seemingly innocuous
foods, caffeine increases your heartrate, and can also increase anxiety levels.
Processed sugar - large amounts of sugar will give you a
short-lived burst of energy. This nervous energy can feed any anxiety attacks, but doesn’t last long. Instead of
artificially sweetened foods, try eating more fruit.
Alcohol - Although alcohol is a depressant, it does not reduce
your anxious feelings. Many people who suffer regular panic attacks turn to alcohol to help their symptoms. In
reality, this does not work and can lead to alcoholism.
2. Get plenty of sleep
This may be difficult if your anxiety attacks are common, because advanced
anxiety disorders often result in sleeplessness. However, if you are able to fall asleep, you should make sure that
you get a full night of sleep. Sleep lets your body work out excess anxiety through dreams.
Better diet and more sleep will help you in overcoming panic attacks while
you’re not currently experiencing one. However, if you do start to have a panic attack, you can overcome it by following a few
tips.
-
Get into a comfortable position until it passes. If you find a way to reduce
external sources of stress for the duration of the panic attack, you should find that it goes away more
quickly. However, make sure that you are not fleeing the place you are - actual escape from the entire
situation may make later panic attacks easier to trigger.
-
Instead of thinking about how bad you feel due to the panic attack, try to remind
yourself that nothing bad will actually happen. This is easier said than done, but making an attempt to
think of panic attack feelings as panic attacks instead of as true.
Although it is difficult, you can overcome panic attacks with focus and
practice. The important thing to remember is that it will be easier to deal with these attacks while they happen if
you have already laid the groundwork, like eating healthy and exercising regularly. One last important thing to
remember: overcoming panic attacks gets easier the more you practice.
